Best Cure For Depression In a Spouse

Those that suffer from depression do not see things as you do. It is not something that they want, it is something that just happens to some people. Though there are some times when depression is a result of a life changing event that they can not seem to get over, but other times, it is just a matter of life. Whatever the case, living with someone who is always depressed is hard, but you should know that your spouse needs you now more than ever. If you want to help with depression, there are a few things that you should remember.

One thing that can help with depression in a spouse is to remember to never take it personally. If our spouse is lying in bed all day, it does not mean that they think you are boring or that they do not want to spend any time with you. This is an illness that can do strange things. One is that the person with depression will not want to do anything that they would normally love. They lose interest in just about anything. You can help with depression by trying to remember that. You can encourage them to do some things, but don’t push to hard right away. Do it slowly.

Another way to help with depression is to encourage someone to see a doctor if they have not already done so. You should go with them, and do some of the talking for them if they don’t feel like saying much. Being on the right medication is a good step, especially when someone may be feeling as if they do not want to go on. Once they start their meds, help with depression by reminding them that some meds take a few weeks to kick in, and that they should continue with them and give them a chance. You can even make sure they are taking them on time and know what the side effects might be.

There are always going to be other people in your lives that do not understand depression. You can help with depression by either explaining, or by saying that you both want to have some privacy right now. Some don’t believe that depression is a real thing, though they change their minds if they go through it. However, knowing you can help with depression by protecting your spouse when they are feeling their worst can help them in recovery because they know you are there for them no matter what.

Lastly, if the depression is the result of a life event, you have to remember that things may get worse before they get better. If you have cheated, for example, and that has thrown your spouse into a depression - even when they want to work things out - there are some things you can do to help with depression. You should never bring up any relationship issues with them at all. Now is not the time to talk about those things. They should be on medications and going through therapy before any such discussion can take place. Don’t go into anything like that until the therapist has given the okay to start to work through such problems.
